Some spaces never get comfortable on central air: the bonus room over the garage, a sunroom, a converted attic, a workshop, or an addition that was never connected to the ducts. A ductless mini-split solves that without new ductwork. AC and Heat LLC installs Mitsubishi ductless mini-split systems for homes and businesses in Wylie and the surrounding cities.
How a mini-split works
A mini-split has an outdoor unit and one or more slim indoor units mounted on the wall or ceiling. A small refrigerant line and a drain line connect them through a hole about three inches wide. Each indoor unit has its own remote or thermostat, so every room can be set to a different temperature. Mini-splits are heat pumps, so the same system cools in summer and heats in winter.
Good places for a mini-split
- Garages, workshops and home gyms
- Room additions, sunrooms and converted attics
- A bedroom or office that is always hotter or colder than the rest of the house
- Older homes or buildings without ductwork
- Small offices, server closets and other commercial spaces
What we look at before installing
We look at the size of the space, insulation, windows and sun exposure to choose the right capacity. We also decide where the indoor head will move air best and where the outdoor unit and line set can run neatly. One outdoor unit can sometimes serve several rooms, which we can discuss.
A recent mini-split install
A Mitsubishi Electric ductless system we installed in a metal shop building: one indoor head on the wall and the outdoor unit on wall brackets, with a line-set cover and its own disconnect.

Keeping it running
Mini-splits are simple to live with. Rinse the washable filters in the indoor unit every few weeks during heavy use, keep the outdoor unit clear, and schedule regular maintenance to clean the coils and drain. If you would rather update the whole house, see our installation and replacement options or read about heat pumps.
